The Story Behind Hang Onto Joy
My name is Evette, and I am the artist behind Hang Onto Joy by Evie, a collection of one-of-a-kind wearable art pieces inspired by texture, color, and material transformation.
Creativity has been a constant part of my life. While growing up, I was always drawn toward art classes whenever I had the opportunity. Over the years my work evolved through many mediums including painted wood pieces, wreaths, button art, and decorative garden elements that played with light and color.
Eventually my creative focus shifted toward wearable art — pieces that allow artistic expression to move beyond traditional spaces and become part of everyday life.
Today I design sculptural hats, repurposed neckwear, textile bracelets, and other wearable pieces that explore layering, texture, and organic composition. My work is influenced by the expressive use of color and atmosphere found in Impressionist painters such as Monet and Seurat.
the collection
Wearable Art Designed to be experienced
Today my work includes sculptural hats, repurposed necktie necklaces, textile bracelets, and creatively reimagined tote bags.
Each piece begins with a base material that becomes the canvas for design exploration. I work with textiles, vintage elements, fibers, and found materials, layering them thoughtfully to create balance, movement, and texture.
Rather than producing identical items, I approach each piece as its own composition. The result is a collection of unique wearable artworks, each with its own personality and story.
artistic Influence
Inspired by Color, Texture, and Light
My work is strongly influenced by the Impressionist painters, particularly artists like Claude Monet and Georges Seurat, whose work captured light, color, and emotion in expressive ways.
Their approach to art reminds me that creativity is not about rigid perfection, but about feeling, atmosphere, and movement.
Perhaps it is also my Aquarius nature, but I believe deeply in surrounding ourselves with creativity, positive energy, and good vibes, and that philosophy lives at the heart of everything I create.
a creative collaboration
Another meaningful part of this creative journey has been sharing it with my family.
My mama contributes beautiful crocheted elements to some of the designs — a skill I greatly admire but admittedly do not possess. Her fiber work adds depth and craftsmanship to many of the pieces, creating a collaboration that blends our creativity and love for handmade artistry.
Rather than producing identical items, I approach each piece as its own composition. The result is a collection of unique wearable artworks, each with its own personality and story.

the process
How Each Piece Comes to Life
Every piece begins with inspiration — a fabric, ribbon, vintage detail, texture, or color combination that sparks an idea.
From there I layer materials, shape forms, and refine the design until the composition feels balanced and complete. Because the process is intuitive and material-driven, no two pieces ever develop the same way.
Each design becomes its own small work of wearable art.
